The Director, Head of Segment manages the full spectrum of business covering acquisition, portfolio growth, value proposition and client engagement. In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function. A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication/negotiation may be necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy in area managed. Determines approach to implementing functional strategy. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy of the area(s). Impact reflects size of team managed, strategic influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility for multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval. May be doing involved or responsible for diverse (cross-discipline) activities.

In this role, you’re expected to:

  • Drive client value proposition, client engagement and portfolio growth across segments
  • Collaborate with internal cross functional teams including compliance, risk & control, digital, operations and frontline for seamless execution to deliver business goals, negotiate & build relationship with external partners and other Citi businesses to create value-add for the overall franchise  and present segment strategies to management team and C-suite leaders to secure buy-in and align with bank-wide goals
  • Strong business sense: Deep understanding of market dynamics (e.g. market trends, competitive landscapes), anticipate future trends and client demand to develop strategies to achieve business goals
  • Client Centric Focus: Deep understanding the needs of diverse banking segments, especially Emerging Affluent segment, and tailoring products & services that best fit client segments and break the product silo.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging technologies (e.g. AI-driven personalization) and the application for client communication and engagement
  • Expertise in high-volume data analysis and driving marketing campaign excellence to grow business
  • Strategic vision to define long-term segment strategies to drive revenue, net new investment asset growth,  market share and grow the emerging affluent and affluent client base
  • Holistic view of how the overall wealth business operates and able to lead initiatives around customer segments rather than product or functional silos to drive business metrics and deepen client engagement
  • Strong control mindset, assess risks and make informed choices/priorities that align with the overall wealth business objectives
  • The role will be responsible for customer Experience, defining our strategy and overseeing the execution of the underlying initiatives
  • This role will be required to drive action across the organization (other functions: Operations, Technology, Sales, Control Functions etc) in order to achieve goals and ensure that a BAU operational model is in place
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 15+ years of experience, including 8-10+ years' managerial experience
  • Knowledge of industry players and ecosystem, as well as industry networks preferred
  • The incumbent will work closely with regional product teams to set and track annual spend and revenue targets, and will be expected to support client discussions to help drive wins, program growth and new deal ramp
  • Fluent in English, Chinese and strong in written Chinese
