The Head of Process Engineering for Markets Operations primary objectives are to 1) drive the transformation of Markets Operations to achieve its target state and 2) support the Head of Operations in their interactions with key stakeholders in particular the firm-wide Chief Operating Officer function and Technology. The function comprises of two distinct teams: 1) a business engineering team of approx. 100 staff globally and 2) a business solutions team whose role is to develop low codes and business intelligence solutions for Markets Operations (approx. 20 staff and 30 contractors globally). The candidate requires solid operational experience combined with a strong transformation mindset. A knowledge and experience of the deployment of new technologies is a plus.

Markets Operations is a global organization with a presence in over 60 Countries, covering post execution capabilities spanning product aligned Middle Office groups, Settlements, Margin, Asset Servicing, Listed Derivative & Commodities Operations. We support an extensive range of products and services including FX, Fixed Income, Equities, and Commodities. We are part-way through a multi-year journey to deliver a target state of Operations, encompassing end to end target operating model, controls design and uplift, technology transformation, data and process re-engineering.

Responsibilities for Business Engineering & Architecture:

Lead, Manage and Oversee the function:

  • Manage the Business Engineering & Architecture function, ensuring the change book of work is being delivered in line with strategic objectives on time and within budget.

  • Lead a global team of in excess of 150 staff across multiple locations in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Responsible for developing strong talent at all levels of the organisation. Review the function’s current footprint and if necessary, devise plan to optimise the location strategy.

  • Develop a culture of excellence, accountability, control mindset, global process consistency and continuous improvement. Deploy a strong people engagement plan across all global locations.  

Drive transformation efforts:

  • Building on the strategy recently defined to transform Markets Operations, develop a target state and granular roadmap for delivering our strategic objectives while continuing to execute on our mandatory book of work. Supervise the performance of function, ensuring all the metrics and controls are in place.

  • Partner closely with Technology and the Program Execution teams on new initiatives and change projects.

  • In partnership with Technology, Finance and Central Operations, develop principles and clear roles and responsibilities for an optimal end-to-end business architecture. Partner closely with Business partners and other teams within Markets Operations to ensure smooth end-to-end flow and straight-through processes.

  • Drive the adoption of new technologies in particular GenAI.

  • In collaboration with Technology, drive the adoption of Agile.

  • Drive prioritisation governance and optimise the benefits of the solutions developed by the Business Solutions teams to Markets Operations. Define a plan for deploying a clear data strategy and business intelligence for Markets Operations.

Drive engagement with Technology, Program Execution & firm-wide COO function:

  • Lead and oversee Markets Operations’ involvement in firm-wide programs. Represent Markets Operations at firmwide governance forums such as the Enterprise Design Authority.

  • Represent Markets Operations with the firm-wide COO function to ensure clear understanding of objectives, strong communication and transparency and participation in COO-wide initiatives such as Reference Data Target Operating Model.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience in the Operations of a major global bank within the Markets Division.

  • Strong Leadership skills - Operates as a leader, with an understanding and appreciation for diverse backgrounds. Ability to inspire a strong risk mindset and culture of excellence, accountability, global consistency and continuous improvement.

  • Track record of transforming operations leveraging process and technology change. Strong strategic and commercial acumen. Ability to develop medium and long term plans and strategies combined with a strong track record of execution. Good understanding of how Technology can support business imperatives, automate current processes and drive transformation.

  • Strong partnership skills with the ability to influence decison-making at senior level. Has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on critical activities

  • Demonstrates ability to make sound judgment calls on issues that can be both quantitative and qualitative in nature.

  • Serves as a point of escalation for key issues or time sensitive decisions.

  • Acts decisively in high risk scenarios, assessing a situation based on available data, experience, intuition, and judgment.

  • Ability to respond to challenges with creative solutions, adapts to changing business needs.

  • Champions diversity and seeks to recruit, retain, and develop talent. Supports mobility.

  • Excellent Communications skills verbal & written. Active listening skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
