Managing Director – Head of Data Platform is a senior management level position responsible for two major applications. We work with large volumes of data (Terabytes and Petabytes) to bring the data from our front end systems and ensure data quality and data reconciliations are completed. This then allows the data to work for the downstream avenues. The data we process mainly comes from Markets, Equities, Services, TTS and Fixed Income, with our main end users being Risk and Finance. Experience of managing Data technology Upgrades, Migrations or New Functionalities would be great with creative implementation techniques. We want to hire a leader who is comfortable in the detail of the architecture, someone who can advise on the best technologies to invest in.

This function is used by the whole bank.

This person must have handled large projects with management of 300-400 people and a portfolio of at least $15m. Experience in Large Data related projects in Banking or Financial institutions will be good.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Large Big data platform with 20PB data and 10b+ daily volumes with 5000+ downstream feeds/reports

  • Manage/Drive Data onboarding, Regulatory Reporting initiatives

  • Partner with Use case Owners/stakeholders from Finance, Risk, Services, Markets and Banking to manage regulatory consent order commitment

  • The candidate will have experience leading large projects, process improvement and change management

  • Lead and oversee the solutions and enhancement activities for automating controls for tool

  • Drive the design and development of system architecture, work with end-users of the systems, and enhance the quality of deliverables

  • Monitor and manage approach/end results, budgeting, planning, policy formation, and contribute to future strategy of the area(s)

  • Ensure change is managed with appropriate controls, documentation, and approvals including implementation of new and revised regulatory reporting requirements

  • Manage and maintain all disaster recovery plans, oversee appropriate testing, and provide permit-to-operate for new applications

  • Contribute to defining and implementing best practices and processes for the department and ensure transparency and consistency across teams

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Expertise leading large scale Enterprise Transformation initiatives with a clear track record of success

  • Define Technology strategy and roadmaps for the platform

  • In-depth knowledge/experience in Markets/Clearing/Risk and Finance data platforms.

  • A background in Finance or banking will be beneficial

  • Ability to articulate intricacies of Big Data Technology Architecture

  • Experience with financial products for Institutional Client Group

  • Working knowledge of the industry and competitors’ products and services

  • Advanced knowledge of strategic direction of the function within relevant part of the business

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and development skills

  • Deep functional and technical experience in Capital Markets Technology across Front Office, Middle Office, Operations, Risk & Finance.

  • Strong Product Delivery skills who can Identify opportunities & champion ongoing best-in-class business transformation/ innovation

  • Must have deep skills in taking Products through the Digital Journeys, User adoption & enablement, Product Branding, Delivering multiples in ROI or Risk Reward benefits

  • Ability to run Data Governance, DQ management across multiple business groups and divisions

  • Experience with establishing Data Lineage between disparate enterprise data stores will be beneficial

  • Familiarity with Data Discovery and Access Solutions

  • Expertise with Data Reconciliations & Control infrastructure required

  • Must have delivered 10+ transformation projects/products successfully

  • Should have managed large development teams and a global footprint

  • Detail oriented and proven analytical skills

  • Solid relationship building skills – with track record of results

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with management and employees across business units

  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership/motivation skills

  • Must have practiced Agile/Scrum

  • Must have experience with the following tools and technologies:

    • Hadoop, Spark, Relational SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, MongoDB) & Big Data querying tools e.g. Hive and Impala

    • Messaging and Middleware Kafka

    • Experience with Java (OOP, Multithreading, Concurrency, Data structures etc.)

    • Experience with NLP/Machine learning

    • Experience with Business Intelligence Tools

    • Experience with UI technologies, design, Rules Engines, Search technology (Angular, NodeJS etc.)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • PMP Certification, specific business Licenses beneficial
