Institutional Credit Management, Commercial Real Estate Financing, Vice President
Institutional Credit Management (ICM) sits within the 1st Line of Defense and provides integrated “end-to-end” credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit risk across the enterprise. Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (ICM-UW) provides analysis, assists with transaction structuring, and performs subsequent credit monitoring.
This Vice President (VP) position is aligned to the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) ICM-UW team, playing a critical role in supporting the CRE Financing business operating throughout APAC. The selected candidate must be able to evaluate complex and variable credit risk issues relating to a range of commercial real estate financing structures and transactions for a portfolio of strategic private equity and private credit investors, active throughout various APAC geographies (Australia/ New Zealand, Singapore/SEA, Hong Kong/Greater China and India).
Additionally, the candidate will regularly assume informal/formal leadership roles within teams and will be involved in coaching and training of junior staff. The VP will have a significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Strong communication, diplomacy and leadership skills are required.
Responsibilities:
Supporting business origination through the provision of timely and accurate financial analysis and recommendations regarding new transaction opportunities.
Make well-articulated recommendations on credit decisions, including risk ratings and regulatory classifications, to achieve consensus with deal teams and Risk approvers.
Support and confirm due diligence activities and preparation of credit memorandums during new deal origination. This may include some travel to tour/inspect new assets as part of the due diligence process.
Conduct in-depth analyses of financial data and other information, assessing deal strengths, weaknesses and risk factors though research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources.
Ensure credit approval packages are complete, accurate and thoroughly documented and ensure that all transactions follow regulatory and Citi guidelines, policies and procedures.
Remain current on all aspects of the credit relationship, including exposure, compliance, and potential credit concerns.
Conduct periodic credit monitoring reviews and update risk ratings and regulatory classifications accordingly.
Maintain and update internal system records for credit approval and consent, and loan performance data for regulatory reporting.
Inform bankers and 2nd Line of Defense of any deterioration in operating performance based on financial reporting.
Ensure Credit Approval Memo (CAM) packages are complete, accurate and thoroughly documented and ensure that all transactions follow regulatory and Citi guidelines, policies and procedures.
Support and Confirm deal team due diligence activities and preparation of CAMs during new deal origination.
Verify data accuracy in collateral and facility records, for example, prepared by other internal partners.
Support Senior members of the ICM team in making recommendations/credit decisions, including risk ratings and regulatory classifications as well as during internal audits and external regulatory exam responses.
Fully conversant on prudent risk practices within Real Estate Credit including all policies, standards, procedures, and risk limits specific to their Portfolio.
Qualifications:
5-8 years relevant experience.
A good track record of experience in a similar role. Previous experience working directly in Commercial Real Estate lending, structuring and execution in the financial services industry.
Ability to apply credit and risk principles toward business goals.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with a high sense of urgency.
Highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and possess effective interpersonal, organizational and analytic skills.
Solid organizational skills with ability and willingness to work under pressure and manage time and priorities effectively with little to no supervision.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority.
