Enterprise Services and Public Affairs (ESPA) seeks to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand through direct and indirect communication with Citi's various stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Taiwan Communications team is part of the Global Communications team, a nimble group within ESPA covering a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from executive communications and public engagements to quarterly earnings and corporate reputation programs as well as communications supporting our lines of business.
The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team work with senior stakeholders to drive external and internal communications to create positive impact within the wider community. Within Citi, the team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly collaborates with business and Global Function stakeholders within and outside of Taiwan.
About the Role
The Public Affairs Officer/Head of Communications role manages a small team of Communications professionals in Taiwan and directly reports to the Managing Director/Head of Communications for Japan, Asia North and Australia, with a matrix reporting line to the Taiwan CCO and Banking Head. The Public Affairs Officer/Head of Communications is a C15 Director role and sits on the Taiwan senior management team.
Responsibilities
- Leads external and internal communications for the Citi Taiwan franchise, including media relations, senior executive communications, employee communications, and crisis and issues management.
- Develops and implement strategic communication plans for Citi Taiwan, ensuring high share of voice in the media.
- Works closely with the Taiwan CCO and Banking Head for her/his external (e.g. media, speaking engagements) and internal employee communications (e.g. memos, town halls).
- Leads the Taiwan Communications team to work closely with Global Business Communications teams to formulate communications strategies for businesses in Taiwan.
- Advises senior management and approved spokespeople on media opportunities and issues.
- Builds and maintains a strong network across regional and local media in Taiwan.
- Handles crisis scenarios, providing strategic advice to management and handling media inquiries
- Acts as a key media contact for all issues relating to Citi Taiwan.
- Identifies, refines and implements key messages to ensure organizational consistency and adherence to public disclosure policy.
- Identifies significant media and public policy issues to promote and/or protect Citi.
- Works closely with the relevant business and Global Function teams for award submissions for Citi Taiwan.
- Works closely with the Community Investing and Development team in Asia to manage and drive communications for community and employee volunteerism programs.
- Manages budget and relevant vendor relationships for the Taiwan Communications team.
- Stays abreast of emerging financial sector legislation, competitive activities and geopolitical issues.
- Appropriately assesses risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- 15 to 20 years of relevant communications experience, with 8-10 years of management experience running a communications team.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese; native/expert fluency a prerequisite.
- Extensive experience across all aspects of communications, including managing reputation, crisis and issues.
- A trusted and respected senior communications leader comfortable with advising C-suite and senior business leaders, with high level competency in senior stakeholder management.
- Adept in managing diverse stakeholders across multiple levels, businesses, functions and geographies.
- Experience in navigating a complex global organization with matrix reporting lines.
- Seasoned media relations professional with in-depth understanding of the regional and local media landscape and strong relationships with editors and financial journalists in Taiwan.
- Experience in managing and driving communications for community and employee volunteerism programs.
- Sound understanding of the role of social media and new media in the evolving media landscape.
- Expert writing and editing skills.
- Adept in content creation and storytelling, and editorial production.
- Sound understanding of event management, branding, and sponsorships.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, highly driven, with strong strategic and critical thinking skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Arts, Marketing or Journalism
- Language requirement : Fluently in both English and Mandarin Chinese
